Food systems are at the crossroads of many of the challenges we face today – from fighting climate change, through stopping losses to reducing food waste.
As defined by the Sustainable Future Goals, which are at the heart of the UN Development Goals and the European Commission’s Green Deal, addressing these challenges requires urgent action. In cooperation with other EU agencies, member states and international partners, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) is committed to supporting the achievement of the goals of the UN and the European Commission.
How will science develop and respond to these challenges in the coming period? There is growing evidence that human, animal and environmental health are inseparable, meaning that risk assessment as a science cannot be limited to food and feed safety. It is necessary to look at a broader perspective and turn to the approach “one health – one environment”.
That is why the scientific program of the conference “ONE – Health, Environment, Society 2022”, which will be held in Brussels and online from 21-24. June 2022, designed in cooperation with:
- European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC),
- European Chemicals Agency (ECHA),
- European Environment Agency (EEA),
- European Medical Agency (EMA) and
- Joint Research Center of the European Commission (JRC).
EU member states, EFSA’s international partners and scientists will also be invited to get involved in the development of the conference’s scientific program. By bringing together scientists from different scientific fields and with diverse expertise, the conference represents a very important opportunity to exchange knowledge and participate in the main debate, ie addressing key topics for the EU political agenda.
In line with the principle of sustainability, the conference will be held in a hybrid format, which will allow for remote and wide-ranging participation.
Key topics and goals:
• Considering food and feed safety through a broader perspective of sustainability,
• Research of possible development of scientific risk assessment,
• Review of strategic goals for the future and guidelines for regulatory science,
• Contribute to the achievement of the objectives of new policies, such as the EU Green Deal, and the strategies for their implementation.
Key dates:
• May / June 2021 – publication of calls for abstracts of oral and poster presentations.
• September 2021 – deadline for submission of abstracts.
